New Huckabee Ad: Comments

I received an email just now from a supporter of Mike Huckabee's that I do not know.  He wrote me asking to have Mike's Christmas message removed as a television ad and thought that it would be damaging to the campaign.  The following is my response:

Thanks for your note.
As a simple volunteer for the campaign in SC, I have no say whatsoever in the decisions that the campaign makes regarding advertising.
I see your points and respect them, but disagree.
I consider myself a fiscal conservative and Libertarian leaning Republican.  The social and religious side of the campaign is not what drives me personally to support Huckabee, but nor does it drive me away.  I frankly think this country has become too "politically correct" for it's own good.  It's nice to see a candidate who isn't scared to speak from his own heart to mine. 
I think the commercial accomplishes a couple things. Among them it provides a striking contrast between himself and his opponents who are doing nothing but running attack ads distorting the Governor's record.  We are in a time of American politics where people are frustrated at all the negativity and viciousness.  "Politics as usual" just isn't flying anymore.  In the midst of all the current commercials, to see a candidate rise above it all and just wish people a Merry Christmas is going to have an overwhelmingly positive response by everyone but the political elite, who will attack him, and thus continue to make his point.
And frankly, the vast majority of Americans do believe in God.  Even if someone, like myself, doesn't really celebrate Christmas and "get into the holiday spirit" as much as others, I still recognize and respect it's religious significance.  At the end of the day, I think our side vastly outnumbers those who would even remove the word "Christmas" from schools and community festivals.  I take a commercial like this as a show of strength against the forces of political correctness and I for one am happy to see it.
You are welcome to disagree, that is the beauty of America.  We can disagree civilly on issues and still be proud to live in the greatest country on earth.
If you are a Huckabee supporter, have no fear.  I've questioned a lot done by this campaign, and yet they just keep rising higher and higher than anyone would ever have expected it too!
We'll be alright.
