The GOP Will Be A-OK
My friends may call me a lot of things, but “optimist” is generally not among them. I’m not a purely negative person, but my role in the group dynamic is usually that of the Devil’s advocate. I can tell you why something won’t work, and usually have the facts or reliable “gut” to back up my findings. My goal is to help make an idea better, not just to tear it apart. I’m a positive pessimist.
With that said, I’m about to break from tradition. Drum roll please. I, Christian Hine, am about to offer a positive assessment on the status of the Republican Party, which many are already digging a grave for.
As I did with the results of the 3rd quarter fundraising numbers, I’d like to put some perspective on the current polls which show the demise of the GOP.
For starters, doom and gloomers love to point out that George W. Bush is dragging down the GOP. Oh the horror that his approval numbers are at 34%. Sure, sounds bad. Frankly, the number is justified. But when you look at Congress’s approval numbers, the result is an even lower 24%. To me, this is indicative of general disillusionment with Washington
Another tidbit brought up by the already defeated is that the GOP candidates simply aren’t collecting the money necessary to mount a successful campaign. Giuliani and Romney have already spent more than they have received, and they pale in comparison to the money raised by Clinton and Obama. What could cause this? Have all the Republicans abandoned their party? Is the money all gone? Of course not. The answer is simple. According to a recent Des Moines Register poll, 10% are still undecided on a candidate. Fully three-fourths say that they could be persuaded to support a different candidate than they claimed in the poll!
Ladies and Gentleman, if you don’t fully support a candidate, you don’t contribute money to them! Since the Democrats are more supportive of their candidate of choice, of course they have raised more money! The majority of Republican donors appear to just be waiting until the true nominee “stands up”. And then, having not spent all of their money on a primary candidacy, they will have it in the General Election to support the GOP nominee. Our money is there, it just isn’t being donated yet.
Give it time folks. There is a long way to Election Day. Let the Democrats get cocky. However scared I am sometimes regarding the future of our country, I really don’t think we are quite ready for a true Socialist in the White House.
And besides, when Mike Huckabee wins the GOP nomination, there isn’t a Democrat running that can compete.

Well thought out Christian. It also speaks to how many voters are still available for Huckabee to put him over the top. But the Governor needs funds now to reach the ear of these people. We need to part now with our money so the others have the best candidate to skupport and our Country will once again bloom.
Good point. To add to your statement, if you again look at the Iowa poll, Huckabee is in first place amongst those who are locked on their candidate. That means that of the 3/4’s who admit they can be persuaded to a different candidate, the large majority of those are available for Huckabee.
It’s up to those of us who have decided to back Huckabee to the end to ensure that he has the resources and manpower to get there.
Another outstanding post. I could not agree more with you. From what I am seeing here on the ground our state is shifting towards the Republican Party and away from the Democrats.
I think what happens is the news reports how dire things are for the Republican Party and then people who don’t follow politics here that and just go with the flow. Now with the Internet and new media expanding people are being exposed to a lot more information than before and conservatism always wins that battle.
Wisconsin trending GOP? That’s awesome.
You are right about the news. The mind numbed robots who never learned to really think for themselves just go with the flow and never stop to see where the stream is coming from. I don’t mind bias, as you can tell, but I freely admit I’m a partisan hack. What’s scary is when those in the media pretend to still be unbiased. I would respect them more if they would just come out and admit it.
Cheers.
