Vote Huckabee in PBS Poll
Six GOP contenders for President debated last night on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. The debate was shown on PBS and focused on issues of importance to the black community. Of course, I dislike that distinction. As American citizens, the issues of our country represent issues to us all, regardless of color. I digress.
The only top tier candidate to appear was Governor Mike Huckabee. A statement made by Huckabee pretty much sums up my thoughts on the lack of the other first tier candidates participation, "Frankly, I'm embarrassed," Huckabee said. "I'm embarrassed for our party and I'm embarrassed for those who did not come, because there's long been a divide in this country, and it doesn't get better when we don't show up."
Now, granted, as a whole the black population of this country has been less than supportive of Republicans in recent decades. During a campaign where you are courting your base for votes, it would be a true statement to say that the community won't be flush with potential primary voters. With that said, for one night I think it would behoove Republicans to actually speak with an audience that voluntarily came to listen to what we have to say. Put the primary aside for just one moment and put the future of the party ahead of your campaign for just a couple of hours. Republicans should not be embarrassed to reach out and show how our values are the values that will lift up a race a people who still believe they are living as a "substandard class" in America.
Bad show for Guiliani, McCain, Romney, and Thompson.
Transcripts and video will be posted on Friday, and I'll post it when I have access.
In the meantime, please take the time to vote in the following poll for Governor Huckabee:
