A Request to Other Huckabee Bloggers

Bookmark and Share

HuckabeeWe've all heard by now that Gary Bauer has called on the so called "second tier" candidates to drop out of the race.  For some reason he has climbed into the Thompson fanclub (figure that one out!) and sees our "lowly" candidates as simple distractions to the anointing of Fred Thompson, probably the least exciting of any candidate in the race.  Thanks Gary, way to stick up for principle.  *sarcasm*

I've always hated the media classification of candidates into "tiers".  They essentially declared the tiers way back in the early days of the campaigns and thus created a self-fulfilling prophecy.  People like to support "winners" and if you have been publicly declared a "winner"before the first debates have even occured, it goes without saying that you'll likely win some early support and see some donations pour in.

I'm tired of the media "kingmakers".

Mr. Bauer, clearly you can't be talking about Mike Huckabee as being in the "second tier".  My definition of a "top tier" candidate is one who shares my values and beliefs, is an energetic, enthusiastic, and effective communicator of those beliefs, and who is clearly showing momentum in terms of popular support.  That's Mike Huckabee.

In my world, you don't have "top tier" and "second tier".  The real distinction is that you have candidateswho are rising, falling, or stagnant.  Huckabee is rising.

The media hasn't updated their definition of "top tier" since the begining.  They force upon us from the beginning the PERCEPTION that it's only about money.  Their perception then becomes the reality, as their coverage only encourages the masses to fall in line.  I hear almost everyday the evidence I need to back that up.  "I support Huckabee, but he can't win...he isn't 'top tier'".  People will only end up getting what they don't really like just to satisfy some deep seeded human desire to be on the winning side, whatever that really means.  As I've said before, what have you won if you support a candidate who you don't really like?

I could ramble forever, but what I'm proposing to other Huckabee bloggers is this:

The media has created one perception among the masses about what "top tier" is.  Gary Bauer has taken that hook, line, and stinker(sic).  I say we fight back and start to create another perception.

From now on, in every post I write, including the one below this, I will refer to Huckabee where appropriate as a top tier candidate.  I hate the term, but that's what people respond to.  The more people read it, the more it becomes ingrained in the psychy, and the more it becomes our new reality.  If we can stop just one person from suggesting that they like Mike, "but he isn't top tier", then we have succeeded.
