Huckabee to Thompson: Debate Me
Political discourse is sorely lacking in today’s society. The campaign for President of the United States has in recent memory become more about style over substance, money over ideas, and popularity over ability. The American people decide the leader of the free world based on what? Who has the best hair? Who last appeared on their favorite television program? This trend is disturbing to me.
Governor Mike Huckabee released today a decision to seek one on one encounters with Senator Fred Thompson in a more substantive and engaging debate format. The debates we have witnessed thus far in the campaign have done little to actually inform anybody watching of the issues at hand. The one-liners get all the attention, but this country cannot be sustained by ten second quips. That is not the basis on which we should be deciding our leaders.
I hope that not only Senator Thompson agrees, but that Huckabee will offer the same opportunity to other candidates as well.
