Huckabee on Foreign Policy, Paul Confrontation
The September 5, 2007 debate of GOP Presidential candidates brings us yet another video showing why Governor Mike Huckabee is the right person to lead our nation. He just gets it. I have posted the exchange between Governor Huckabee and Congressman Ron Paul below.
Ron Paul simply does not understand that we are part of a global community in which truly evil people reside. His cerebral arguments fall on deaf ears. He is of the mistaken impression that by removing our troops from Iraq peace will reign and no American will ever again lose a life. He somehow believes that the culture of western hatred shared by our enemies will dissolve itself should the US simply "pull out". How wrong he is. Quite the opposite would happen. If we pull out, it shows our enemies that we are weak, that we have no resolve, and that they can continue their terrorist ways against us until our nation crumbles to dust. How do I know this? Because that is what they tell us. You know what? I believe them.
We live in a world based on power and the projection of power. There is indeed a finger on the trigger of the world and right now that is an American finger. Should we give up, go home, and hide, there will be a vacuum created and the world will be perched on the brink of a future detrimental to all civilized peoples. What nation will fill the vacuum we leave behind? Russia? China? Iran? I for one am not willing to find out.
No, our foreign policy isn't perfect. The world is too complex to allow any policy to ever be perfect. But I can say this without any fear or hesitation: If you are against this war and American interventionism in general because you despise the cost in terms of lives that our doing so entails, then just wait until the United States is no longer the balancing force. My friend, you will see death and destruction...chaos and abuse of power on a global scale that makes World War II look like it was a walk in the park.
My thanks to all the men and women who serve with HONOR in our armed forces...most especially my brother who proudly serves in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi.

Did you see the results of the viewer poll? Mike Huckabee came in 2nd after Ron Paul. But in all fairness, most of the Ron Paul voters were Democrats who happened to catch the debate. Huckabee was the winner, though I thought McCain did well considering every other answer was complete BS.
Kudos to Huckabee and to those supporters who voted for him. He truly got the clip of the night (again).
Hey Kevin, welcome to my neck of the woods. It’s an honor.
I usually discount online polls as being an indication of overall support for a candidate. What they do accomplish effectively is gage the excitement level and “work ethic” of a candidates supporters. I think you are right about Paul’s dem votes, but there is no denying he has a rabid fan base. What I’m excited about is that Huckabee does too and since he is the more legitimate candidate, with views more in tuned to the GOP base, his supporters will actually have an effect in converting votes to their candidate’s side. The Paul supporters cries fall on deaf ears.
McCain is getting a lot of props for the debate, which I don’t understand. Are people already forgetting he is flat out wrong on illegal immigration, campaign finance reform, social security, etc? I respect his service to our country, but the man has no attributes I look for in a president, besides his support for the war.
This is a great post. Please pass on our sincere thanks to your brother for his service and also thank you to your family. The families get overlooked all to often even though they also sacrifice.
Thank you, and I will.
