Huckabee Not Scared of YouTube
Controversy is brewing around the GOP Primary debate scheduled for September 17. Just as the Charleston debate for the Democratic candidates featured questions from actual Americans via YouTube videos, so too will this CNN debate in Florida.
A few of the "top tier" candidates are worming their way out of this debate. Giuliani is claiming such things as "scheduling conflicts". With months of notice, I find this a cowards way out. Romney has mocked the "seriousness of the questions". While the delivery of some of the questions bordered on the absurd, (a man dressed up as a snowman, for example) the individuals asking them succeeded in doing what so few of us have had an opportunity to do...ask all the presidential candidates a question to be answered on national television. I applaud their success in standing out enough to get chosen. I think Romney's true fear is being asked a question that hasn't been fit into his perfectly scripted (and frankly disingenuous) campaign. While a President must think on his feet every day, apparently the candidates don't want the practice.
Mike Huckabee recently posted this video, on YouTube no less, to indicate that he will indeed be participating in the debate. I'm happy to see it. Not only is this video a virtual smackdown, but having Huckabee alone on the stage with the other "2nd tier" candidates will be a bloodbath. If anyone can think on his feet to an unscripted question, it's Mike Huckabee.
